Progress of Eurydice Painting

Here are some progress Pictures of my current (huge) painting. The painting will be 28x48" / 71x121cm. This is just a detail of the final painting. I've been sharing the progress of it on my facebook profile . It is not finished yet, but I thought it would be nice to share the progress in one go, since I am nearing the end and there are now long periods of drying time. I am using an antique tambour lace veil with appliqué floral motifs, probably from the late 19th century. The lace is simply painted as a tiny square pattern, interrupted here and there by a floral motif. The pattern is painted over a darker background so that the fabric is visible. I try to vary the tonal value of the pattern to indicated folds and shading, something I will enhance later (after it has dried) with adding glazing and scumbling and even repaint areas that need more punch. Open Studio Days Preparations

Although it is not May yet, I have already started planning for the Open Studio Days ! Making sure I have enough greeting cards, prints and other goodies. Besides my original oil paintings, there will be a lot of lace, fabrics, portraits, reproductions, greeting cards, notebooks, sketches and drawings. Commissions

Just to let you know.... Commissions do not always need to be portraits...think of eternalising that prom dress or wedding veil, shawl-with-a-memory or christening gown....

Perfect Frame

I just love my framer. They make exactly what I imagine..... Frinton Frames , thank you. That said, frames are quite personal and you might not like what I like....;)

Eurydice

I've been exploring a new medium..charcoal pencils. The textures you can create with these are really endless. Still lots to learn but am getting the hang of it. I've called this one Eurydice, she has some tiny snakes in the lace pattern..... Eurydice, Charcoal & Pastel, 60x45cm
