Red Silk and Black Lace (2)

My red silk/black lace painting is progressing. Still plenty more work to do. It is a bit of a learning curve for me as this black lace is very dense and so I cannot paint the pattern of the threads very well. Other methods are required! Plenty more work to be done on all areas!

Charcoal/pewter frames

I always drop everything when new frames arrive. Frinton handmade frames are so beautiful. Here are ‘Silk Dress’ and ‘The Blue Dress’ in the future frames....

Currently on the easel; red silk and black lace....

Onwards....

The Art Trail has finished and I am back in the studio and behind the easel. If you missed the trail or want another peek, feel free to contact me to arrange a time. The trail has been very succesful for me. I have sold 4 paintings (incl. Yellow Scarf II in the picture which will be collected at a later date) and lots of cards, prints and sketches. I am grateful for all the wonderful comments from all those lovely visitors and I really hope I will see them (you) all again next year. Next year might be in my studio or elsewhere, it has not been decided yet.

Art Trail 2012

Royal Society of Portrait Painters annual Exhibition Portraits 2012 The private view of the RP exhibition was, as always apparently, packed. Through the crowds I managed to have a good look around and found myself amazed at the evocative paintings on display. I had so many favourites I could not show them all. There was an impressive collection of portraits of the Queen, to celebrate her jubilee, and of course the celebs were not lacking in presence either. But a hugely touching portrait by David Cobley of his mother stole the show, as did three paintings by RP member Michael Taylor. Antony Williams won the Ondaatje Prize ('best in show’) and his work is absolutely awesome. His portraits in egg-tempera are stern but endlessly subtle, technically amazing and timeless. My painting had a fantastic spot on the wall of the north gallery, surrounded by RP members’ work. I was honoured it was hanging so well. My friend and model was with me and she got recognised immediately by
